New year's eve 2000 we all thought the world was going to end. 2 months after, my world did end. We had a brilliant night. I had to feed my dad wine through a straw, and give him a cigarette. He had stopped smoking and drinking for 2 years, but his diagnosis was so bleak he decided, 'bugger it!'. We had a house full of friends, we laughed, and for one day, it wasn't about MND. He died on the 4th of February 2000. I miss him everyday. I was 18 when we lost him. I miss him everyday. I'm now 41. X

Diamond Des, a wonderful and adored brother, husband, son, stepdad, uncle, cousin and a great friend to so many. Des worked so hard for all his life to maximise his fitness. Des was the most capable man. Asthma, Appendicitis, Prostate Cancer, they could not bring him down. At the time he was diagnosed with MND & FTD he was still incredibly fit and cycling 20 miles a day. This savage disease represented everything Des was not. Sadly Des passed away during lockdown. We miss you Diamond 💎
